Is There a Formula for Happiness?

But what does it take for us to be happy?
Is there a simple formula for happiness that we can simply follow?
Of course, the answer is no, there isn't a simple formula. Happiness means different things to different people, but there are a few things we can try to do that will help.

Happiness comes from satisfaction and contentment with our present and optimism for our future.
Our past can provide moments of happiness when we recall particular events, and that's important, but true happiness is in the present.
In the pursuit of happiness, it will help to understand why you are not happy at the moment. It may help to break your life down into a number of areas, and consider each in turn.
Try thinking about your life in terms of the following. Note that these are not in a particular order - their importance may vary from person to person, but generally, they're all important to your happiness.
  1. Your Financial Wellbeing - the state of your savings, retirement plans, debts, assets
  2. Your Job or Career - where are you now in your career? Where will you be in 5 or 10 years?
  3. Your Physical and Mental Health - How fit and active are you? How is your emotional wellbeing?
  4. Your Primary Relationship - How do you feel about your spouse / partner?
  5. Your Environment - where you live. Not just your home, but also the area of town and even the town it's in.
  6. Your Friends and Family - Your support network. The people in you life that you care about and who care about you.
  7. Personal Growth and Development - things you do to continue to grow as a person, spiritually, personally. How much passion and meaning is there in your life?
  8. Fun and Recreation - What do you do in your leisure time?

giving a rating (1 to 10) for each area of these areas.
Be honest. This is for you, not something to share with the world (or anyone at all if you don't want to!).
For those areas that are not 10 out of 10 (and if we're honest, for most of us, that will be most if not all of them), think about what you can do to improve it.
Start with the lowest scores, and write down the things you need to do to make things better. It's important to write it down, and read it regularly. If you just think about it now, you'll soon forget it and do nothing.
Don't be afraid to aim high.

Don't be afraid to ask for help.
Other people have been were you are and have done what you want to do. You don't have to be a trailblazer.

Your achievement is about you, not what others may have done before you.

Chase Your dreams with passion, courage and commitment.
