Have a Goal, the Means to Achieve It and Apply All Your Means to Achieving that Goal

First, have a definite, clear practical ideal; a goal, an objective.
Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends; wisdom, money, materials, and methods.
Third, adjust all your means to that end.
–Aristotle

OK, so the first is relatively easy.
The second starts to get a little scary, because it talks about things you may not have, or at least that you think you may not have, but once you've got past that, then the third is about focus, commitment, persistence, confidence - all things that you have within you. Maybe you'll need a little help bringing them out, maybe not. But the key is that they are in there!

So what do we do about Aristotle's second point then?

The answer is surprisingly simple. We just set ourselves other goals, ones we can achieve more easily, but will take us towards the original goal.
If, for example, you need materials to achieve your original goal, have a preliminary goal to obtain those materials. And if you can't do that all at once, break it down into smaller goals.
The key is always to set yourself SMART goals

Always remember the Power of Goals
